Five empty cars of the Norfolk Southern train on the Brunot Island track in Pittsburgh were brought to a stop on Saturday morning, temporarily closing West Carson Street as crews cleared. Pittsburgh Public Health says the derailment happened around 9:30 or 10 a.m. First responders called to help clean up. -up and to traffic around 1 p.m. A Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 found photos of cars being pulled over from a van in the 2800 block of West Carson in the city’s Esplen neighborhood. All the cars were right, according to Norfolk Southern senior communications manager Connor Spielmaker. Spielmaker says the vehicles were empty and no hazardous materials were involved. He said no injuries were reported. Norfolk Southern crews and contractors are on site to begin cleaning the car, Spielmaker told us. “We appreciate the patience of the community” while crews cleared the cars from nearby roads, he said. West Carson Street was closed between Corliss Tunnel and McKees Rocks Plaza for the time being.
