Police investigate after body found in car

December 26, 5.40pm:

Tasmania Police have closed Lefroy Rd near George Town after a person was found deceased with their vehicle.

In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, a police spokesperson said there were no suspicious circumstances.

“ … However the cause of the person’s death is under investigation,” they said.

Truck breakdown blocks highway in front of popular booze stop

Update, 5.46pm: The truck breakdown on Huon Highway, Grove (outside Willie Smith Apple Shed is now clear.

December 26, 5.30pm:

Police are on the scene of a truck breakdown on Huon Highway, Grove, in front of the Willie Smiths Apple Shed.

Tasmania Police in a statement said a single, southbound, lane would be blocked until further notice.

“Motorists are asked to travel through the area with caution or avoid the area if possible,” police said.

Smouldering smoke alerts crews to Boxing Day house fire

December 26:

A blaze was reportedly alight under a Geilston Bay home when firefighters arrived to the scene at about 1pm on Boxing Day.

Neighbours phoned triple-zero to alert the Tasmania Fire Service to the incident after witnessing smoke coming from a house in Aldina Street.

Crews from Clarence and Hobart have been called out and discovered the fire was coming from under the home.

Firefighters are working to extinguish the blaze.

Have you seen this motorcycle rider? Police tracking blue dirt bike

December 26:

Information about the rider of a blue dirt bike is being sought by Tasmania Police.

Officers reported the bike was spotted at the Risdon Vale/Grass Tree Hill roundabout at about 5.30pm yesterday.

The rider was reportedly last seen heading in the direction of the Bowen Bridge.

“Police would like to speak to the rider,” a spokesperson said.

The rider was described as being of slim build and wearing a green helmet, grey hoodie, light brown backpack and dark coloured trousers.

Anyone with information or dashcam images is urged to contact police on 131 444.
