Review of Toadstool Cafe at Super Nintendo World at Universal Hollywood – The Kingdom Insider

I recently had the opportunity to visit Super Nintendo World for the first time ever. Entering the Super Nintendo World is really like a straight line into a video game. All things are made in the size of life, and the characters of all the beloved are made in the size of the beast. You are surrounded by the very things that have fueled all our anxiety since childhood, such as Thwomps (giant stone faces), thorny ones, tall cacti, small mushrooms, etc. It’s literally your chance to find out in the game!
After boarding Super Mario Kart: Bowser’s Revenge and through all the interactive games offered around the land, you have an appetite to work. Fortunately, the Toadstool Cafe is there amidst the hustle and bustle of it all, and is a safe haven amongst all the chaos. As of now, you need a reservation to dine here. Super Nintendo, even better; There is a QR code that you can scan on the menu at the front of the restaurant, and where you can flash and reserve a spot online. I arrived in the early afternoon and there was already a sign out front that declared it was fully booked for the day. If you run into the same thing, fear not! Just scan that QR code and recharge. I tried again and again for about an hour or two, and the time 5:30 pm became available randomly.
Inside Tabuletta Cafe is a very immersive experience. You can see the menu (which also has pictures) on the screens while online; then you order a bowl and it is given with a shriek; So you sit down and wait for your food to be brought to your table. The sitting area reminded me a bit of Rainforest Cafe; It shines and rejoices for a little while, and then it becomes a little dark and gloomy as the thunder passes. It is very beautiful, and both kids and adults will enjoy the experience!
And now one of the most important parts of the food experience! We all know that theme park food can be hit and miss. I can honestly say that every single item we ordered was a 10/10. I couldn’t believe that each and every item on our menu was X/X (granted, we didn’t have a chance to try everything on the menu). Here is what we ordered;
Mushroom Soup-$9.99
Creamy Mushroom Soup with Super Mushroom Crash: I was skeptical about the mushroom soup at the theme park, but it was SO GOOD! They offer soup to your table inside the roof of a toad. Take a vivid picture, because they take the back with them: it has a small mess floating on top of the mushroom crash. The soup is creamy and smooth and has the best flavor, I was super surprised and really happy with this one!
Mushroom Garlic Knots-$5.99
Mini mushroom-shaped knots with garlic butter, parmesan cheese, parsley, and a side of marinara sauce, I didn’t expect to be blown out of the water and I thought that, like most of the park’s breads, these were soft and more. on the hard side. These are so soft and fluffy and extremely flavorful. It delivers the best garlic bread I think I’ve ever had at a theme park!
Mario Burger w/Bacon, Mushroom & Cheese ($16.99)
All beef patty, bacon, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and American cheese served on a brioche bun with a side of French truffle fries. A vegetarian option available +$2.00-Burgers can also be hit and miss, but since the previous items were so good, I actually took the first bite of this burger with high hopes. He did not disappoint here either. The burger tasted like it was cooked on the grill, and the ingredients were super crisp and fresh. even the crispy bacon (sometimes in a theme park bacon can be a little chewy) and mushrooms were the perfect additions. The tube fries were heavenly and I had a hard time stopping myself from eating “just one fry”.
Super Star Lemon Squash ($8.00)
Honey lemon soda with mango stars and various tropical berries – This is a super refreshing drink and a really fun addition to the monthly dessert. It’s hard to tell in the picture, but the colorful tropical berries and mango stars make this drink super fun to look at and enjoy. This is good with almost everything on the menu!
? Block Tiramisu-$9.99
Tiramisu layered with lady coffee soaked fingers topped with cocoa powder and chocolate power – I personally am not a huge tiramisu fan so my husband enjoyed this one and said he was quite impressed with it. The lady fingers (crisps) were soft and moist and had great flavor overall.
Prince Peach Cupcake- $9.99
Blackberry Filled Funfetti Cupcake, Buttercream Frosting and Peach Chocolate Crown – This cupcake blew me away, which I’m not surprised as everything was good at this point. This was also super moist and had an amazing flavor. I’m usually very picky when it comes to frosting but this was just amazing. This cupcake is pretty big and I’m really disappointed, it ran out of room so I couldn’t finish it. We still dream about this cupake and can’t wait to come back and enjoy it again.
Overall I was impressed with Toadstool Cafe. We all know that theme park food can be hit and miss at times, but it’s an absolute blast because I’ve loved each and every one of my attempts. I didn’t get to try everything on the menu, but I know everything else is just as amazing.
