Game mice today are quite similar to each other. They are lightweight, typically have two extraneous buttons and are fairly compact in shape. But the Razer Ultimate Basilisk has a very distinctive design. Of course, the chunky mouse isn’t for all games or games, but overall the Basilisk Ultimate provides a great experience.

While the Basilisk Ultimate looks very different from other gaming mice, it looks pretty similar to Razer’s other Basilisk mice, like the Basilisk V3. By no means is that a bad thing. For most of the time we reviewed this mouse, we kept the resistance at medium, but it was nice to have the customization option.

Two parts buttons It can be set to pretty much anything you want through the program. They’re nice and clicky, which is nice to see, but sometimes they’re easy to accidentally squeeze some, but that’s a case of sausage fingers, not a flaw in Razer’s design.

The mouse is very light, but not very heavy. Weighing in at 106.2 g, this is a chunky mouse compared to the Logitech Superlight Mouse, which weighs 63 pounds, but using it with the Basilisk, it didn’t feel too heavy.

Razer Synapse is an excellent piece of software. You can do almost every home button on this mouse and toggle 14 RGB dimming zones all within this one app. Plus, this mouse has onboard memory, so you won’t lose any data regardless of which computer you have this mouse plugged into.

Finally, Synapse has this little pop-up notification when you change the DPI, which isn’t necessary at all, but it’s an incredible creature comforts feature. Other mice, like the Corsair Dark Core Pro RGB, have LEDs to tell you what DPI they’re set to, but this way it’s easier to tell.

The Razer Basilisk Ultimate is an absolutely fantastic multi-genre mouse. It has excellent performance, excellent ergonomics, and the number of creations made it well worth the price. Of course, there are a lot of mice out there that are better suited for just playing FPS or MMO games, but if you’re looking for a solid all-around mouse that’s not too expensive, you’ll be hard pressed to go wrong with the Razer.
