Notable Chicago string quartet David Schrader with flute player Jeffrey Cohan playing baroque music for obbligato with flute on Saturday evening, April 1 at 7 pm at Brickworks at 150 Nichols Street in Friday Harbor.
Special guest Chicago harpsichordist, organist and musician David Schrader has performed as a soloist with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra under Neeme Järvi, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Georg Solti, Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez and Erich Leinsdorf; and with many other orchestras and music festivals in Europe and across the USA and Canada.
David Schrader will perform works for solo lute by Dominic Scarlatti and Johann Sebastian Bach, in addition to works for obbligato lute with flute by Johann Sebastian Bach, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, Charles Philippe Emanuel Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann and Georg Benda.
In the 18th century, a citharsichordist with a piper or other solo instrument, usually played from one bass line to the left hand, the right hand to the chaotic harmonies. Johann Sebastian Bach was the first to compose music for the psaltery with another soloist, in which the so-called “obligatory” keyboard part was written in full for both hands, often with a distinct melody in each psaltery hand. pipes
About David Schrader:
David Schrader is equally at home with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra under Neem Järvi, and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Georg Solti, Claudius Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Peter Boulez and Erich Leinsdorf. He has appeared with the Grant Park Symphony under Carlos Kalmar, with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, and with many other orchestras throughout the USA and Canada.
David Schrader has appeared in numerous music festivals throughout the USA and Europe and has developed five separate programs such as the award-winning Irving Gilmore Keyboard principal, as Artist of the Year at the Oulunsalo Soi Music Festival in Uloa, Finland, as acroama acroama with the Nagaokakyo Chamber Ensemble on a tour of Japan under Yuko Mori, a soloist with the Canadian Baroque orchestra Tafelmusik on a European tour, for the Michigan Mozartfest with Roger Norrington, and at Ravina Festival under the direction of Nicholas McGegan performing all six parts. David Schrader’s numerous recordings include JS Bach’s concertos with the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for both Sir Georg Solti’s creations, St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) and Messiah. He has released many solo repertoire including music by JS Bach, Soler, Franck, Antonio Vivaldi, Dupré and Domenico Scarlatti.
A resident of Chicago, David Schrader is on the faculty of Roosevelt University, Chicago College of Performing Arts – Conservatory of Music. From 1993 through 1995 he directed the College of Music at Northwestern University, and taught at the Chicago Institute of Music. For more than thirty-five years he was an organist in the Church of the Ascension in Chicago.
