National Book Critics Circle award winner at the Millbrook poetry event

MILLBROOK- The Millbrook Arts Association is pleased to present the second edition of Poetry, a public art collection of contemporary poetry throughout the Village of Millbrook in celebration of National Poetry Month. Millbrook Arts Group designed more than 50 graphic window panels that will be placed in stores and restaurants in the town’s business and bank district.
Poems feature in Crossroads Books, a nonprofit literary press based in NYC, publishing poems and short stories about emerging and established writers. The publisher is dedicated to producing and promoting the best literary publications and creating opportunities for creative writers to write about.
merit Authors represented are the recipients of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, King Tufts
Poetry Prize, Rome Prize, and many other honors. Featured poetry author, Cynthia Cruz,
was the 2023 recipient of the National Book Critics Circle poetry award. Local poet and director
of Four Way Press, Ryan Murphy says, It is an honor to share the work of these authors with mine
community “.
Authors include: Cynthia Cruz, Carlie Hoffman, Eugenia Leigh, Jen Levitt, Nathan McClain, Yesenia Montilla, James Fujinami Moore, Ryan Murphy, Victoria Redel, Glenis Redmond, Rob Schlegel and Soren Stockman.
In addition to poetry, the Millbrook Arts Association shared the Millbrook Library and grounds
schools to present a Tribute to the Garden Poetry Walk, which will feature more than 30 written poems
and illustrated by local young poets.
Merritt Bookstore will be hosting one-hour Haiku Workshops for adults and children and will be Open
Mic Poetica Dav. The Millbrook Library will also be hosting an Open Mic Night and the Hudson Valley
Writers Workshop In addition, poems by 3rd grade students from Alden Place will be presented in the
Library and community members young and old can stop by to hang their lines

April 1-30 – Millbrook Tribute Garden Poetry Walk
Take some time and enjoy some beautiful letters from local poets! Selected poems from the poetry submissions will be available in April. Savor the creativity of some of the smallest minds!
April 1-30 – Alden Place Poems – Millbrook Library
Stop by the bookstore in April and enjoy the poetic musings of Alden Place 3rd graders! Over 60 poems will be available for the whole community to enjoy.
April 8 – One Hour Haiku Workshop for Kids, ages 3 – 13, Merritt Bookstore, 10:30 am – 11:30 am
Join Kira on the lawn outside the shop to read and write Haiku! Haiku center around three lines
moment and perception- is (against most American teaching) the flexibility of syllables and
in all ways we must help to take to heart something that we have seen, understood, or thought. All materials provided. (There will be an event if there is a need to have domestics).
April 12 – Open Mic Night at the Millbrook Library, 6:00 pm
I came up with some writing, poetry, a story, an essay, creative fiction, a manifesto, screed, or even a guitar and a song. Readers read on a first-come, first-served basis, sign up early on the library website to get a slot!

April 22 – Hudson Valley Writers Workshop, Millbrook Library, 1:00 am
Whether you’ve never written a word or are an established writer – try your hand at a five-minute spontaneous writing adventure, critique a short paragraph, or just listen to group members read.

April 29 – Independent Bookstore Days – Open Mic Poetry – Kick off 11:00 am
On the lawn outside the shop, kids and adults alike can read their haikus and other poems throughout
