Iowa tornado warnings, watches and updates on severe weather Friday – Des Moines Register

Severe storms developed across Iowa on Friday afternoon with the risk of tornadoes and hail. As the threat leaves central Iowa, several tornadoes have been reported in eastern parts of the state. Northern and north central Iowa could experience snow and blizzard conditions overnight.
Pollucis warning for Fairfield, Mount Pleasant and Wayland
A hail advisory is in effect for Fairfield, Mount Pleasant and Wayland until 5:30 p.m. Ping pong sized hail is possible.
Dust warning for Vinton, Center Point and Urbana
A hail warning is in effect for Vinton, Center Point and Urbana until 5:30 p.m. Large hail is possible.
Tornado warnings for Waterloo and surrounding areas
A hail warning is in effect for Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Grundy Center until 5:15 p.m. Average hail is possible in the Pea region.
Pollucius warnings have been issued for Washington, Kalona and Riverside
A storm warning is in effect for Washington, Kalona and Riverside until 5 p.m. The region could experience ping pong-sized hail as the storm moves through.
Dust warning for Coralville and surrounding areas
The National Weather Service has declared a tornado in Coralville, North Liberty and Mount Vernon until 5:15 p.m. Baseball-sized hail is possible in the area.
Polluce warning for Marshalltown and surrounding areas
A pollen advisory is in effect for Marshalltown, Reinbeck and Gladbrook.
The warning is in effect until 5:15 pm and those in the area could see hail up to peacock size.
Polluce warning for Waverly, Parkersburg and Ackley
A storm warning is in effect for Waverly, Parkersburg and Ackley, located east of Iowa Falls.
The warning is in effect until 5:15 pm and those in the area could see hail up to peacock size.
Central Iowa is no longer under the threat of severe weather as storms head east
Central Iowa is no longer considered a severe weather threat as large hail and tornadoes continue to hit parts of eastern Iowa.
The National Weather Service said storms and gusty winds will continue in central Iowa. Eastern Iowa continues to be impacted by severe weather.
Pollucius warning in Benton County
A dust storm warning was issued for Vinton, Garrison and Mount Auburn, all located in Benton County. It is a radar-indicated warning and can see an area down to the size of a peacock.

A measles warning has been issued for parts of Iowa and Washington counties
A pollen advisory has been issued for Williamsburg, Wellman and North Anglesey located in Iowa and Washington counties. It is possible to become an average person. The warning expired at 4:45 pm
Pollucius confirmed Jefferson, Keouk County
A large and dangerous storm is on the ground in Keokuk County, according to the National Weather Service.
Pollucius descended near Packwood in Jefferson County and headed toward Hedrick and Martinsburg in Keokuk County.

A radar signal warning has been issued for Tama, Toledo and Chelsea, located between Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. Pe* is given to a large hailstone, as it rolls through the country.

A severe thunderstorm warning has also been issued for the region, including Grinnell.
Pollucius spotted Montezuma
Polluces were spotted at Malcolm and Montezuma, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning for this region was allowed to expire as the storm moved eastward.
Pollucius confirmed near Ottumwa
The National Weather Service confirmed that the tornado had just touched down north of Ottumwa.
The Pollux warning has expired for this region, but it remains under a severe thunderstorm warning.

A large hail was reported throughout the state
The storms stopped moving large hail across Iowa. The National Weather Service reported that a cell moving through Story County around 3 pm produced hail as large as 2 inches in diameter.
What do you do in a crowd warning?
The weather service says it’s always important to have an emergency plan in the event of a severe storm, including designating a “safe place” in your home, preferably away from windows and in an interior room. Keeping things handy like lamps, batteries, food, water, clothes and shoes is recommended.

A severe thunderstorm warning for the Des Moines metro
Several severe weather warnings have been issued for storms approaching Des Moines.
Warning until 3:45 pm Huxley, Ames, Nevada and the northeast sun. Winds up to 60 mph and 2 inch sized hail are possible.

What is the weather forecast for Iowa today? Is there even a tornado watch?
A National Weather Service tornado watch has been issued for parts of east central and east Iowa, including Des Moines, Ames and Iowa City. The shelters surround the area with a population of more than 5 million people and will remain in place until Friday evening at 8 o’clock.
Pollucius’ watch means conditions are right for a tornado to form. Iowans must observe the conditions and be prepared to host.
The National Weather Service’s warning states that “this is an extremely dangerous situation.” Meteorologist Jeff Zogg said the National Weather Service typically doesn’t issue that type of warning unless conditions “pose.”[s] a significant danger to the state”.
“We’re looking at the potential for severe weather this afternoon. Tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds. Any storms that do develop will move pretty quickly. And there’s the potential for violent, long-lasting tornadoes. So that’s one of those kinds of terms out there,” he said.
Zogg recommended Iowans take note of weather updates as they visit https://www.weather.gov/dmx/have a plan for if a severe storm hits the area.
“As you know, any storm that develops will grow quite quickly and move quickly,” he said, adding that Iowans should “know where you can go for safety if an impending storm approaches your location.”

Pollutant watches have been set up to remain prepared and ready to act, according to the NWS. They mean that tornadoes are possible and the weather conditions are “severe thunderstorms that produce tornadoes.”

Blizzard and winter weather warnings for northern Iowa
Published by the National Weather Service blizzard warning in far north Iowa near the city of Estherville in Emmet County, which will take place from 11 p.m. until Saturday.
The combination of rain, strong winds and cooler air coming tonight will “produce blizzard to near blizzard conditions” with the potential for bumpy travel conditions, according to the NWS. The region could see between two and four inches of snow and wind gusts of up to 50 mph.
The NWS issued a winter weather forecast for the same period in surrounding counties, including Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth, Palo Alto, and Hancock.
In central Iowa, rain and snow is possible overnight with a chance of light snow through 7 am Saturday. Less than half an inch of snow is expected. A mix of rain and snow is possible by 7am Saturday near Iowa City.
