“First Face,” “Oklahoma!” to win the 2013 Olivier Awards

The 2023 Lawrence Olivier Awards were held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on April 2. Past and upcoming Broadway offerings were among the evening’s winners.
A revised version of “Oklahoma!” by director Daniel Fish awarded the revival of the best musical (winning, among other revivals, the West End Broadway transfer by director Bartlett Sher “My Fair Lady”. The recent adaptation of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” opened on Broadway in April 2019 and Tony He won the award for best musical revival.Additionally, in 2023 the Oliviers honored Arthur Darvill with the award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in Curly in London.
Also on the Broadway front, Suzie Miller’s new play “First Face”, which opened in London in June 2022 and will arrive at the Rialto on April 11, won the Olivier for Best New Play. (Among the plays nominated for the hit “First Face” was the West Broadway transfer of the hit “To Kill a Mockingbird.”) “First Face” star Jodie Comer, who decided to criticize her lead role in Stem, won the Olivier for Best Actress.
Presented by the London Theater Company, the Oliviers celebrate the best of professional theatre, dance and opera in London, including the West End. Emmy-winning actress Anna Waddingham, a three-time Olivier nominee and Broadway alum, hosted the ceremony.
