Amazon layoffs continue, now firing hundreds of employees from its gaming division – India Today

Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann in his memo to staffers has informed that the company is focused on reducing the risks in its divisions such as Prime Gaming, Game Growth for long-term goals.

The recent announcement that the game is part of a broader division of the company and has been impacted by its first Gaming employees, Game Growth and the company’s San Diego studio.

Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann wrote a staff memo on Tuesday and indicated that these job cuts are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to restructure and streamline its operations. Hartmann stated in his memo that Amazon will support its focus on content and continue to invest in its internal development efforts.

“After evaluating our projects against long-term goals, the game leadership team made the difficult decision to eliminate just over 100 roles across First Gaming, Game Growth and our San Diego studio, while also relocating some employees to other projects that fit our strategic focus,” he wrote. .

“Going forward, we will continue to invest in our internal development efforts and our teams as we move forward,” Hartmann further added.

According to a CNBC report that cited Hartmann’s memo to staff, Amazon began informing affected employees about the player in live meetings Tuesday morning with human resources. In addition, Amazon has also promised to support the impacted worker by offering them severance pay, health insurance benefits, complementary services and paid time off to complete their job search.

The recent layoffs at Amazon are part of the company’s ongoing effort to restructure and streamline its operations. In an effort to control costs, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced last month that the company would be laying off an additional 9,000 workers. This comes on top of a previous round of cuts that saw more than 18,000 people lose their jobs. Additionally, Amazon has begun hiring out its physical workforce and has begun experimenting with some projects, including a telehealth service and the delivery robot MARMORALE.

As for Amazon’s Gaming Division, the company entered Gaming in 2013, after launching Amazon Games. However, in the past few years the game has been a hit despite working on several publishing projects and attracting top talent from companies such as Sony Online Entertainment.

In 2020, Amazon released its first big-budget game, The Crucible, but it canceled the free-to-play game in a few months. A year later, Amazon released the PC game New World, in which it enjoyed some early success. The company capitalized on this by launching the role-playing online action game Lost Ark in February.

Amazon’s gaming division has also seen some turnover among its top ranks. Mike Frazzini, who helped launch Amazon’s game studio, stepped down in March. In January, John Smedley, who joined Amazon Games’ San Diego studio, left the company.
