In a historic court appearance Tuesday, former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges of falsifying business records in Manhattan criminal court. Prosecutors said Trump sought to undermine the integrity of the 2016 election by accounting for payments made to women who claimed they had extramarital affairs with Trump. He said business. After the impeachment, Trump flew back to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, where he gave a speech rife with false accusations. “I never thought something like this could happen in America, I never thought it could happen,” Trump said. “The only crime is that I fearlessly defend the country from those who seek to destroy it,” he said. The next in-hearing is scheduled for December 4th, although Trump’s representatives have vowed that they will do everything they can to stop the case before that.
Liberals will gain control of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, attempting to overturn majority control in favor of Democrats in what is expected to be a runoff election in 2023. Democratic incumbent Janet Protasiewicz, a Milwaukee County judge, will defeat a conservative judge in the district. As Daniel Kelly approaches abortion, election rules should stay more in line in key states. The fight also became the most expensive court race in the country, with about $30 million spent on the shows alone. Conservatives now hold a 4-3 majority in the court, but the retirement of conservative Justice Patience Roggensack has put the majority in jeopardy.
Florida’s state senate this week blocked six-week abortions, sparking protests at the state Capitol that resulted in several evictions. The bill, which is still being piloted in the Republican House, comes one year after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the 15-week ban into law. The new legislation draws attention to the conservative credentials of DeSantis, a potential 2024 gubernatorial candidate, but has upset the state’s Democrats, two of whom were arrested during the protests. The legislation will address ongoing efforts across the country to restrict access to abortion following the reversal of Roe v. Wade. Other Republican-led states have also pursued six-week abortion bans that have faced legal challenges.

Volkswagen is recalling 143,000 of its Atlas SUVs due to a “sporadic” issue detected in some passenger airbags that can turn off the sensor under certain conditions. Until the cause can be corrected, VW is advising owners to keep people in the passenger seat. While it is still unclear what is causing the problem, VW researchers were able to determine that it happened on Atlases at two specific times. The recalled vehicles are all model year 2018 to 2021 Atlas and model year 2020 Atlas Cross SUVs. The company said it is unaware of any injuries that have resulted from the problem, but is notifying vehicle owners via email as a safety precaution.
Buckingham Palace released the invitation for King Charles’s coronation on Tuesday, in which his wife was first listed as Queen Camilla. The intricacy was complicated with the text: “the coronation of their majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.” Camilla took the title of queen consort after the death of Elizabeth II and her husband’s accession to the throne. Since she and Charles were married, Camilla has worked hard as a senior royal, standing by Charles’ side and advocating for charities that help women and children. But many do not easily forget, or forgive, the long affair and sorrow which Charles caused to his first wife, the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Also on Tuesday, the White House confirmed that President Joe Biden will be attending the coronation, but First Lady Jill Biden will be accompanying us on behalf of our nation.
